Chapter Two
Things at the Academy
Things at the Academy
First
of all, I had never been away from home for more than a week for camps and
such, for another, I'm not one to do crazy things. My friends had been
pressuring me to have some YOLO moments for years. The only thing I had ever
done that was even close, was to hang a sign on the side of a van with some of
my friends that said "Honk if you want free ice cream". The van had
driven around all day not knowing why people were honking at it. I think moving
to a school halfway across the country topped that one.
When I woke up the next morning I couldn't stop questioning
my decision even though I was already here. The six other girls didn't seem
surprised to see me.
"Hailey and Jen both got here the same way," said
Carly a girl who had been here the longest. "I haven't found out my power
yet. The evaluation doesn't always work. But four months seems pretty steep to
me doesn't it?"
I thought so too, although I didn't understand really what
the 'evaluation' was. Carly was only fourteen,
"They only take new students when the new school year
starts, but I had to leave home early, so they've really only tested me four
times."
"They scout for us during the summer so we get here on
time. It makes me wonder why you got here so late in the year." Said Jen complacently
directing her comment to me. "We all got here in within July and
August."
We were all in the revolting common room waiting for the
rest of the boys to be done getting
dressed. Carly had assured me everyone stayed in their pajamas for
breakfast. We were sitting in the extremely cushy couches getting to know
everyone. I was also the oldest one there. "Since today is the first day of the
term they'll do the orientation and everything will start making sense,"
said Carly.
I was grateful for the other girls' welcoming me before they
even knew me. We played games while we waited, not just for the boys but also
for our youth leader.
I though it was you talking, not you're character. HA, HA, HA! so loling
